19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
